Duties
- Perform thorough periodontal assessments, including probing depths, bleeding indices, and clinical measurements to evaluate gum health.
- Assist in the diagnosis and treatment planning of periodontal diseases by reviewing medical and dental histories and documenting findings accurately.
- Provide professional cleanings, including scaling and root planing procedures, utilizing aseptic technique and infection control protocols.
- Educate patients on periodontal disease prevention, oral hygiene practices, and the importance of maintenance visits to improve long-term outcomes.
- Support the dental team during procedures by providing chairside assistance with four-handed dentistry techniques, ensuring smooth workflow.
- Take and interpret medical imaging such as X-rays, review documentation for accuracy, and update electronic medical records (EMR systems) with detailed notes.
- Monitor vital signs before treatment sessions to ensure patient safety and compliance with health standards.
Requirements
- Valid licensure as a Dental Hygienist with certification in periodontal therapy preferred.
- Proven experience working in a dental office setting with a focus on periodontal or general dentistry procedures.
- Proficiency with dental software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for charting, documentation review, and record keeping.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, HIPAA regulations, and medical terminology relevant to dental care.
- Experience with pediatric dentistry is a plus, along with familiarity in pediatric patient care and assessment.
- Skilled in chairside assisting techniques specific to periodontal procedures and patient comfort management.
