Community Coordinator - Position
The Vancouver College of Dental Hygiene (VCDH) is seeking a highly organized and community-minded Community Coordinator to support the ongoing operation of our mobile dental hygiene clinic initiative.
The Community Coordinator will play a key role in developing and maintaining partnerships with community organizations across British Columbia to expand access to oral health care for underserved populations. This position involves coordinating mobile clinic outreach, managing site logistics, supporting student and faculty participation, and ensuring culturally safe and inclusive engagement with diverse communities.
The ideal candidate will be skilled in relationship-building, communications, and project coordination, with a strong commitment to health equity and community service. This is a dynamic role that combines outreach, logistics, and program support to ensure the success of VCDH's mobile dental hygiene services and educational objectives.
This full time position is offered on a 20 week renewable contract at a rate of $65 an hour. This position will also include teaching one didactic course. The Community Coordinator will be responsible for instructing students in community clinical settings.
Community Coordinator – Roles & Responsibilities
The Community Coordinator is responsible for the mobile dental hygiene initiative, building and sustaining relationships with external partners to expand access to oral health services, and support student learning through community outreach
Community Engagement & Partnerships
- Establish and maintain partnerships with non-profits, schools, long-term care facilities, Indigenous health organizations, and other community agencies.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for partner organizations.
- Support the development of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and partnership agreements.
- Foster culturally safe, inclusive, and respectful relationships with diverse communities.
Mobile Dental Hygiene Clinic Coordination
- Schedule and coordinate mobile dental unit visits with partner sites.
- Manage site logistics (space readiness, power access, parking, supplies, consent processes).
- Troubleshoot issues at community sites to maintain smooth service delivery.
Student & Faculty Integration
- Coordinate student and instructor assignments for community outreach.
- Provide site-specific orientation and guidelines prior to placements.
- Collect and communicate feedback from partners, students, and faculty to support continuous improvement.
Oral Health Promotion & Education
- Support planning and delivery of workshops, unhoused, presentations, and resource materials tailored to the needs of diverse populations (e.g., newcomers, older adults, Indigenous peoples, 2SLGBTQIA+ groups, people with disabilities).
- Ensure that oral health promotion reflects community-identified needs.
Communication & Liaison
- Share outreach schedules and updates with internal and external stakeholders.
- Act as liaison between community partners and VCDH leadership to ensure alignment of expectations and services.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain records of community outreach events, attendance, and services provided.
- Track partner feedback, student participation, and demographic data as required by Health Canada reporting.
- Support preparation of reports and evidence for accreditation and funding requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required
- Master's degree in public health, or health education is considered an asset
- Minimum 10 years of clinical dental hygiene experience
- Demonstrated experience in community-based dental hygiene or public health settings
- Currently registered and in good standing with the BC College of Oral Health Professionals (BCCOHP)
