Kingsway Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is an approved non-hospital surgical facility providing excellence in patient care for over 60 years. With multiple surgeons on site, Kingsway is an active, fast-paced clinical environment where a dynamic individual can thrive.
Our surgical team is passionate about what they do to ensure patients receive the best possible care. We are currently looking for a highly motivated, like-minded person to join our team as a Full-time Registered Dental Assistant.
This position is in Edmonton, requiring travel to our satellite location in Grande Prairie 3-4 times per year for a 1-week period (Monday-Friday) with other team members.
JOB DUTIES
X-RAYS
- Patient exposure to periapical, occlusal, panorex and cephalometric films
- Processing and developing all films including duplication
- Maintenance watch over all x-rays and printing equipment
Patient Consultations:
- Greet and seat patients, maintaining smooth flow of patients through consultation area.
- Schedule surgical appointments.
- Provide patient education including preoperative instructions, diabetic protocols, etc.
- Impressions
- Photography
- Maintain complete, accurate patient charts (i.e., physical and digital) including models and x-rays from referring practitioners
- Clean and disinfect all flat surface areas, instrumentation, and equipment after each patient per clinic protocol
- Restock depleted items in consultation rooms; advise Team Lead when stock on hand is running low
Surgical Assisting (clinic locations):
- Confirm all surgical patients within standardized clinic protocols
- Room set up prior to commencing surgical list (i.e., check inventory, specific tray requirements, monitors and machines on and functioning, including hand pieces and suction)
- Greet patients and escort to surgery; identify patient by verifying wristband
- Ensure patient comfort and education
- Establish monitor connections to patient
- Assist anesthesiologist as necessary with instrumentation or intubation
- Provide surgical assistance (chairside and float)
- Transfer patient from chair to stretcher for transfer to Patient Recovery Room
- Perform surgical check list procedures
- Transfer surgical tray to sterile prep and ensure removal of all sharps
- Clean and disinfect surgical area including chair, all hose connections, and flat surfaces between patients
- Daily protocol of surgical area including cleaning and disinfection at end of surgical list
- Restock depleted items in operating rooms; advise Team Lead when stock on hand is running low
Surgical Assisting (acute care facility):
- Accompany surgeon to hospital as surgical assistant
Patient Records:
- Prepare surgical lists and charts
- Validate that all surgical requirements have been met (i.e., x-rays in place, dentures and/or templates available, pre-surgical medicals, ECG's, lab work completed) and are in place
- Maintain complete, accurate patient charts at end of surgical list (i.e., pathologies, notes, additional extractions, etc.)
Post Surgery Patient Care:
- Make follow-up phone call the evening of surgery to ensure patient well-being. Answer any inquiries and/or direct concerns to surgeon on call.
General Job Requirements:
- Registered Dental Assistant Licensure (required)
- CPR basic life rescuer (preferred)
- New grad up to 3 years experience as a Dental Assistant
- Able to travel to our Grande Prairie location on rotation
- Demonstrate pleasant, professional manner in all interactions
- Adaptive and responsive in a large, fast-paced clinical environment
- Able to work well within a team, contributing to the completion of individual and shared tasks
- Eager to learn
