Duties, Tasks & Accountabilities
- Keep abreast of waiting room and bring patients in for consults/procedures
- Prepare patients for dental examination and assist the dentist during the examination
- Take and process X-rays
- Take preliminary impressions for diagnostic casts
- Complete Patient Treatment Sheets and present patients with informed consent
documentation (i.e. pre and post-op instructions)
- Prepare for and assist with consults
- Prepare for and assist with surgical procedures
- May perform intra-oral duties such as remove sutures, take and record vital signs, apply desensitizing agents, topical anesthetic
- Enter clinical/surgical notes and treatment plans into patient chart as per Surgeon
instruction and/or templates
- Effectively communicate patient cases and treatment plans during hand-off to
administrative staff.
- Participate in training programs
Essential Credentials & Education
- Completion of Certificate in Dental Assisting, Registered with CDSBC, CPR certified
(Continuing Ed.: Canadian Dental Anesthesia Assistants Course [CDAAC], and the Dental Anesthesia Assistants National Certification [DAANC]) Preferred but not necessary.
