Your Role
As a Dental Assistant, you will support patient care and clinic operations by:
- Preparing patients for dental examinations and procedures, ensuring comfort and readiness
- Assisting dentists during procedures by passing instruments, suctioning, and maintaining a clear operating field
- Take dental radiographs in compliance with HARP requirements (as permitted by certification status)
- Performing permitted intra-oral duties, including:
- Placing and removing rubber dams
- Applying topical anesthetic and fluoride
- Taking preliminary impressions and/or digital scans for study models
- Taking and pouring dental impressions for diagnostic casts, custom trays, and bleaching trays
- Performing basic dental laboratory tasks, including polishing crowns and pouring and trimming models
- Preparing cases to be sent to external dental laboratories and completing related administrative tasks
- Preparing, organizing, and maintaining treatment rooms before and after procedures
- Sterilizing, disinfecting, and maintaining dental instruments, equipment, and operatory areas in accordance with infection prevention and control standards
- Ensuring strict adherence to IPAC protocols, including surface disinfection between patients
- Educating patients on proper oral hygiene practices and providing post-operative and post-treatment instructions
- Recording dental procedures, charting dentition, and maintaining accurate, up-to-date patient records
- Monitoring, restocking, and managing clinical supplies; assisting with inventory control and ordering
- Supporting scheduling and confirmation of appointments as required
Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Completion of, or current enrollment in, a Dental Assisting program from a recognized Canadian institution
- NDAEB and HARP certification required upon independent practice
- (Applicants pending certification will be considered for supervised training roles)
Experience
- Previous experience as a Dental Assistant preferred.
- Dental Assisting students and new graduates are encouraged to apply.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong interest in dental procedures, instruments, and infection control standards
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Experience with Tracker dental software is an asset
